A brief summary of swingers!

Everyone today has a brief history about swinging on their websites just to improve search engine ranking. So we will attempt to write our own to keep up with them.

The original term for the word "Swinger" derived from The Swing Era between 1935 and 1946, when big band swing music was the most the popular music in the United States. Swing dancing was wildly popular and became a trend just as it did with Disco in the 70's.

Because of the internet every one today is familiar with the word swinging. Swinger is often referred to as wife-swapping, group sex etc. The true meaning of the words swinger or swing were originated from the 1920’s in Harlem where the black community, while dancing to contemporary Jazz music, unveiled the Charleston and the Lindy Hop.

Swing became the dominant music genre of the 1940s both with fashion and style. There were many different types of dances and many musical groups, the main legendary musical groups of the time were known as the kings of swing which included: Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway.

The Swing Era lasted from 1935 thru 1945.

Did you know it is rumored that during the Second World War, swinging, known as wife swapping back then was rooted from the US Air Force? It began because the fatality rates for these men were the highest of any military branch. Many of these pilots moved there wives close to base which in time led to wife swapping between pilots wives. This activity also spread to the nearby suburbs of bases by the end of the Korean War. Rumor has it that it was also believed it was a way to ensure that military member's wives were taken care of if something happened to the husband. Emotionally, financially, and sexually. In the later 1950’s I believe 1957 the media picked up on this and reported it as wife swapping.

From then on the word swinging became so popular that it took on further meanings beyond music and dance, it was now defined as a way of life, and as the dance and music style moved on, the term "Swinger" came to mean someone that was in tune with the latest social trends.

The word Swingers began to be used sexually in the late 60's early 70's. It came about symbolically as someone who swings from person to person sexually. The term swinger seems to have been around for the last 80 years.

Today with it's new meaning, the growing number of wife swappers has grown to massive numbers, but different forms of Swinging can be dated all the way back to the early days of Rome, Ancient Greece, Sumerian and Egyptian etc.
